DI’s mobile app, GoMyWayVATM, aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in NoVA by incentivizing users to: (1) change travel modes, (2) adjust travel routes, and (3) modify departure times. GoMyWayVATM is being rolled out in phases.  In February 2025, the rollout process began with what is called the “Pioneer Launch,” allowing early adopters (Pioneers) to test the app and provide valuable feedback and earn exclusive rewards for their participation.  The Pioneer Launch focuses on testing the Loyalty and Challenges features initially, with the Dynamic Incentives component to be introduced for testing in August.
Stakeholder outreach has revealed two key commuter needs: (1) the need to know total commute time and costs before leaving home, and (2) the need to access all transportation options in one place. To meet these needs, GoMyWayVATM offers a comprehensive inter-modal trip planner. The app displays total trip costs, travel times, and a full range of NoVA mobility options, including transit, biking, walking, vanpooling, slug lines, and driving. But GoMyWayVATM doesn’t stop at planning. The app incorporates challenges and loyalty elements that use gamification and rewards to engage users. These features are designed to prepare users for dynamic incentivization, helping to influence and change travel behavior over time. At the heart of the app is the Mobility Wallet, a tool that holds GoMyWayVATM currency (coins), payment methods, and rewards. This wallet makes it easy for users to track and redeem incentives, creating a seamless experience that encourages smarter travel choices.
By combining innovative tools and engaging incentives, GoMyWayVATM empowers commuters to make informed decisions that benefit both themselves and the region’s transportation network. GoMyWayVATM is predicated on three “pillars” of support: (1) a Loyalty Program to establish brand trust and grow program participation; (2) a Challenge Program to encourage goal-seeking achievements and long-term behavior changes; and (3) a Dynamic-Incentive Program to induce immediate behavior changes in response to specific real-time events.
