The RM3P initiative encompasses four sets of technologies, or program elements, to facilitate the exchange of information across a wide variety of stakeholder agencies. These program elements are the:

  • Data-Exchange Platform (DEP),
  • Artificial Intelligence-Based Decision Support System (AI-DSS),
  • Commuter Parking Information System (CPIS), and
  • Dynamic Incentivization (DI).

The latter three systems, once operational, will leverage the data in the DEP to accomplish their objectives. In turn, more mature data will be fed back into the DEP for further dissemination.

The DEP is the first of the RM3P program elements to be fully functional and to go “live.” It is capable of funneling data to and from the other RM3P systems. AI-DSS will use technology to identify and evaluate the impact of real-time and predicted disruptions to the transportation network. An automated tool will then use the travel data to monitor emerging conditions and recommend plans for coordinated, multi-agency responses to congestion, incidents, and events.

CPIS will provide reliable information about parking space availability at lots serving bus, rail, vanpool, and carpool commuters. DI will be a data-driven system offering incentives to commuters to modify their travel choices and behaviors in response to real-time and expected adverse travel conditions.

The team is looking forward to the next phase of RM3P, involving development and deployment of the additional systems. Together, RM3P is expected to transform commuting in our region, taking it to the next level to get people where they need to go more efficiently and safely  – and with a lot less stress!
