VDOT is calling local innovators and forward-thinkers to test this innovative crowdsourcing solution. Download the free ParkZen app, below, and help fellow drivers park with ease at the following commuter lots: Stringfellow Park & Ride Lot, Backlick Road VRE Lot, Saratoga Park and Ride Lot, Horner Road Commuter Lot, Brooke Road VRE Lot, and Leeland Road VRE Lot.
The Virginia Department of Transportation, in August 2024, entered into a contract with a parking monitoring firm, ParkZen, to furnish commuter parking occupancy data services. Smart Parking Insight, a subset of the Commuter Parking Information System (CPIS), is the fourth and final program element under VDOT’s RM3P umbrella to move out of the starting gate.
The project entered its proof-of-concept (POC) phase on November 12, 2024, and is generating real-time, app-based parking availability data for the six commuter lots noted above. If the POC is successful, the parking technology will be expanded to other commuter lots in NoVA and Fredericksburg. The POC phase has been made possible through the support of the Virginia Railway Express (VRE).
